Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., Gotti rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s, playing a pivotal role in shaping the sounds of hip-hop and R&B albums.

Founded in 1998 in New York City, the label became synonymous with a string of chart-topping hits. Gotti worked with a roster of iconic artists, including Ja Rule, Ashanti, and DMX, propelling them to commercial success. His production blended hard-hitting hip-hop beats with infectious melodic hooks, creating a wave of crossover hits that dominated the charts from 2001 to 2004.

Gotti's production credits include multi-platinum smashes like "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny" (Ja Rule and Jennifer Lopez), "Always on Time" (Ja Rule and Ashanti), and Ashanti's solo hits "Foolish," "Rain on Me," and "Mesmerize." Prior to founding Murder Inc., Gotti worked as an R&B at Def Jam, where he was instrumental in signing artists like DMX, Jay-Z, and Ja Rule.

Murder Inc. was later renamed The Inc.

Gotti signed Vanessa Carlton to the label and co-produced her 2007 album, Heroes and Thieves, alongside Rick Rubin and Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind. Gotti's production work extended to artists like Kanye West, Memphis Bleek, Fat Joe, and Christina Milian. He also released albums under his own name.
